Beatrice M. Caithness, 88, formerly of Newfield, died May 23 at the Newton Center in Sanford after a lengthy illness.She was born in Lynn, Mass. on September 9, 1917, a daughter of Philip and Beatrice (Robinson) Martin.She was employed over the years with Gregory Reeds Shoe Factory and with Boyd's Potato Chips, both in Lynn, MA, and also did some sewing for Union Hospital in Lynn. An accomplished seamstress, she made beautiful wedding gowns, needlepoint and handcrafts. She moved to Newfield in 1988.She was a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star in Saugus, MA and was past high priestess for the White Shrine of Jerusalem in Lynn.Her husband, William D. Caithness, died in 1998.Survivors include 2 daughters, Olive Covey of Newfield, Pamela Noyes of Waterboro, 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and a sister, Vivian Sargeant of Saugus, MA.Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale. A Requiem Eucharist and Burial Office will be celebrated on Friday at 11 AM at St. George's Episcopal Church in Sanford with the Rev. Oscar Swensen officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Newfield.Condolences may be expressed by using the tab to the left.
