Beatrice C. Allen, 85, longtime resident of Kennebunk Road in Alfred, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family, September 25, 2004 at Oak Street Residential Care Residence in Springvale.She was born December 4, 1918 in Hollis, ME the daughter of Charles and Mabel (Emery) Yeaton and graduated in 1936 from Alfred High School. She married Ralph W. Allen November 3, 1945 and began to raise their family. She enjoyed crafts, crocheting and knitting. An avid gardener, each fall brought out her canning and preserving skills. An accomplished cook, her favorite holiday was Christmas and being together as a family. Over the years her pets were a big part of her life. Bea enjoyed collecting a variety of items including trivets, salt-n-pepper shakers and Santa Clauses. She was devoted to her husband and made her home a welcomed retreat for many. She had a very special bond with her grandson, Kevin Towne, whom she lovingly cared for while his mother Betty returned to full time teaching. She is survived by her husband of 58 years of marriage, Ralph W. Allen of Alfred; a son, Kenneth L. Allen and wife Prudence of Hingham, MA and her daughter, Betty Towne and husband Michael of Alfred; three granddaughters: Katherine Schultz of Arlington, VA; Courtney Allen of Cambridge, MA and Tammy Lovejoy of Alfred; and a special great granddaughter, Kayla Lovejoy of Alfred. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.She was predeceased by one sister Marion Philbrick and two brothers; Perley Yeaton, Sr. and Robert Yeaton; and by her grandson, Kevin Towne.Funeral Services will be Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at the Heald Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Alfred.There will be no calling hours.Memorial donations may be made to the Maine Pediatric Specialty Group, Division of Pediatric Pulmonology, 887 Congress St., Suite 320, Portland, ME 04102.
