Cape Elizabeth - Barry B. Sharpe, 85, passed peacefully on September 4, 2023. Barry was born in Portland on April 24, 1938, the son of the late Maurice and M. Arlene Sharpe Sr. He grew up in Cape Elizabeth, and at the age of 15 captured the Maine Boxing 126 Pound Title after training with his father. He went on to win two AAU State Boxing Championships in Bangor in one night. He won 16 out of 20 amature fights and in 1960 he was awarded the Outstanding Boxing Trophy for a fund benefit amature boxing show at the Portland Expo. He graduated from Cape Elizabeth High School in the class of 1956. After graduated high school, Barry enlisted in the United States Army where he was a marksman and was on the boxing team. He won the Lightweight title at Fort Ord and went on to fight in the Golden Glove Championship in Oregon. In 1975 he married Pamela Napolitano at the Spurwink Congregational church in Cape Elizabeth. After his honorable discharge he started his career in sales and management at Sears, Roebuck and Co. He worked for over 30 years at Sears while raising five children. He received his Associate's degree from Westbrook Jr. College, he always made Dean's List. He was a proud member of the Elks Club #188. Barry loved the ocean, playing tennis, and swimming. He became an accomplished swimmer after he was in a boating accident. During his lunch break he would do laps everyday. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, whether it was skiing at Black Mountain, traveling to Europe and Hawaii, attending grandchildren's extracurricular activities, or getting an ice cream; he always wanted to put a smile on your face with his dry sense of humor. Barry's family would like to thank the staff at Holbrook at Piper Shores for their kind and compassionate care of Barry. They would also like to give a special thank you to Catherine Dorrington, owner of Coastal Care Solutions, Barry’s caregiver of four years who cared for him like he was part of her family.  He was predeceased by his brother, Maurice Sharpe Jr.; and a sister, Barbara Blanchard. He is survived by his wife, Pamela Sharpe of Cape Elizabeth; daughters, Cynde LaPorta and husband Carmine of Old Orchard Beach, Mary Jean Napolitano of Portland, Karen Collmus and husband David of Falmouth, Theresa Gendron of Naples, FL, Paula Grant and husband Jeff of South Portland; 11 grandchildren, Daniel, Nathan, Nicole, Andrew, Tyler, Eliza, Sarah, Christopher, Joseph, Lydia, Juliana; and extended family.
