Barbara L. Garron (Barrows), 102, Sanford, ME, departed this world for heaven on February 21st. Barbara was born on October 28, 1919, to Albert S. Barrows and Antoinette Knowles in Danvers, MA. She was a graduate of Danvers High School in 1937. Barbara met her husband Chester E. Garron (Chet) in 1938 in Gloucester, MA, and they were married for over 60 years before the passing of Chet in 2001. Barbara and Chet had four children that they raised in their Gloucester home and at their summer home on Mousam Lake in Shapleigh, ME, where they eventually retired.Barbara was predeceased by her daughter Sherilyn Madruga, sons Ronald A. Garron, Chester E. Garron, Jr. and grandson Timothy Caswell. She is survived by her loving daughter Donna Caswell and her husband Bill of Waterboro, ME. Barbara leaves her cherished grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and many wonderful inlaws.Barbara attended church in the Shapleigh, ME, area for well over 70 years. When Barbara and Chet arrived at their 16th Street home in 1945, they attended Springvale First Baptist Church and then attended Shapleigh First Baptist Church. Barbara was passionate about her faith and was a loyal member of the church community. She was often seen for Sunday service, attended weekly bible study classes and volunteered at various events. Barbara had many friends and enjoyed making chocolate chip cookies and knitting mittens for the children of the church for many years. In 2017, Barbara received the "Boston Post Cane" award given to the oldest resident in the Acton, ME, area. For her 100th year birthday celebration, a party was hosted by family, friends and her church community. Barbara was honored with gifts, certificates and letters of congratulations from local and state dignitaries. Barbara enjoyed relaxing on her favorite chair at home and looking out onto Mousam Lake. She had the best seat in the house for watching friends and family swim, boat and enjoy the beach. Barbara was an avid reader and was always "in the know". She enjoyed good conversations with friends and family and especially the quality time with all of the family children whose pictures she proudly displayed in her home.The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Pinnacle Health and Rehab in Sanford, ME, for providing the highest standards of care and a comfortable and caring home to Barbara. On Sunday, April 3rd, the First Baptist Church in Shapleigh, ME, located at 600 Shapleigh Corner Road, will remember Barbara at the 11:00 a.m. service. Church members, family and friends are welcome to join the congregation after the service for fellowship and refreshments.Arrangements are under the direction of the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale.Condolences may be expressed at www.blackfuneralhomes.com

  2. Barbara was our neighbor on Mousam Lake for the last 6 or 7 years and was a dear friend of my wife Carol who visited her twice a week at Pinnacle Nursing home. Our sincere condolences go out to her family.
