Barbara Frances Carroll

SOUTH PORTLAND - Barbara Frances Carroll, 92, formerly of Cooper Street died on Monday, November 4, 2013 at the Monarch Center in Saco, Maine following a long illness. She was born in Portland, Maine on August 30, 1921 the daughter of William and Catherine Kelley Carroll. Barbara attended St. Dominic's School and graduated from Cathedral High School. Barbara worked her entire career with the New England Telephone Company, retiring after more than thirty years of service. Following her retirement she became a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Barbara lived a very spirited life right up until the very end, she lived life her way, always willing to speak up. Along with her sister Mary, they were never afraid to take on a project around the house, whether it was hanging wall paper or painting the exterior they were up for the task. Barbara was an avid reader, she also loved taking long walks with her dog Toby, spending time at Old Orchard Beach, sewing her own clothes, several trips to Ireland and gardening. Her happiest time was spent cooking Sunday dinners and having her family gathered around the table. Barbara was predeceased by her sister Mary J. Carroll, three brothers John, Patrick and James Carroll. She is survived by three nieces Ann Carroll of Portland, Mary Lou Shuster of South Portland and Alisa Carroll of Massachusetts along with several other nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, November 8, 2013 at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland from 9:00 to 10:30am with prayers being recited at 10:15am followed by an 11:00am Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Cross Church, Corner of Broadway and Cottage Road, South Portland. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, 1461 Broadway, South Portland.Online condolences may be expressed below.
