Arthur D. Roberts, 62 years old of Alfred, ME died Thursday afternoon September 4, 2003 at the H.D. Goodall Hospital in Sanford.Mr. Roberts was born on December 29, 1940 in Sanford, ME. He was the son of Malcolm and Marjorie Deering Roberts. Mr. Roberts was a graduate of the Sanford High School class of 1959.For 20 years Mr. Roberts served the area as a Maine State Policeman. He retired from the force in 1984 and briefly worked for CATV. Many people may also remember him from his days of owning and operating the Walnut Grove Campground in Alfred. He looked over things there from 1989 to 2000, while also working for the Maine Turnpike Authority. Mr. Roberts served the residents of Maine in various capacities over the years, and greatly enjoyed his time doing so. A big-hearted man with a lot of little boy inside is one way to describe Mr. Roberts. He enjoyed the occasional practical joke, and ride on a roller coaster. He also enjoyed fishing with his friends, or just sharing a cup of coffee with anyone that visited. He and his wife Sandra traveled extensively, and saw many interesting areas of the world.Predeceasing Mr. Roberts is his father Malcolm W. Roberts, and a brother John Norman Roberts.Surviving is his wife of 21 years Sandra (Bowley) Roberts of Alfred, his mother Marjorie Deering Roberts of Alfred, three daughters, Nancy L. Roberts, Karen (Roberts) Lord, and Denice (Thompson) Pride, all of Alfred; two sons, Greg R. Thompson of Princeton, NJ, Brian S. Thompson of Hasbrouck Heights, NJ; two brothers, Malcolm W. Roberts Jr. of Orlando, Fl, James W. Roberts of Miami, Fl, and six grandchildren.Visiting hours for Mr. Roberts will be held this Sunday September 7, 2003 from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 580 Main St. Springvale, ME. Funeral services will take place Monday the 8th at 11:00 AM at the Curtis Lake Christian Church, 38 Westview Dr., Sanford, ME. Committal services will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Alfred, ME.For those that desire in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Maine State Police Scholarship Fund, 36 Hospital St. August, ME 04330, or the American Heart Association, 343 Gorham Rd.
