Arthur P. Godin, 69, of Sanford, Maine, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at MaineHealth Maine Medical Center in Portland after a courageous battle with cancer, with his loving family by his side.
Arthur was born on December 13, 1956, in Framingham, Massachusetts, to Donald Godin and Doris Bradley. He spent much of his childhood in San Diego, California, before eventually settling in Sanford, Maine, where he built a life with his family and proudly called home.
Arthur was known for his strong work ethic, quiet strength, and unwavering dedication to providing for the people he loved. At Sprague Electric in 1979, Arthur met Cindy Chamberlain, the woman with whom he would share nearly 47 years of love, laughter, and life’s journey. Throughout his career, he worked for Sprague Electric, Hannaford, Jagger Brothers, SPM, Spencer Press, U.S. Optical Disc, Wasco, and Northeast Coating Technologies. Before retiring due to illness, Arthur took great pride in manufacturing parts used in medical equipment.
In 1981, Arthur and Cindy welcomed their daughter, Karrie, who became the light of Arthur’s life. His love for his daughter was unwavering, and he was incredibly proud of the woman she became. They shared a special bond, and he cherished every moment they spent together.
Arthur found joy in the everyday moments of life. He loved being at home with his family, taking rides on his Harley, relaxing at his computer playing games, and spending time with his beloved cats, Boots and Aubrey. Those who knew Arthur knew he didn’t need much to be happy—just the comfort of home and the people and pets he loved most. His greatest joy wasn’t found in grand adventures, but in those everyday moments shared with the people he loved.
He believed in working hard, living within his means, and always taking care of the people he loved. One of the greatest gifts he gave was the practical wisdom he passed on to his daughter. His lessons about responsibility, finances, and perseverance will continue to guide those who loved him for years to come.
More than anything, Arthur cherished his family. Whether through quiet moments at home, sharing stories, or simply being together, those are the memories his family will hold close to their hearts forever.
Arthur was predeceased by his father, Donald Godin, and his beloved son-in-law, Jason Steeves.
He is survived by his devoted partner of 47 years, Cindy Chamberlain of Sanford; his loving daughter, Karrie Steeves of Limerick; his mother, Doris Bradley of Albuquerque, New Mexico; his cherished grandchildren, Cailin Steeves of Michigan and Preston Steeves of Limerick; his brother, Donald of Artesia, New Mexico; his sisters, June of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Claire of Hope, Arkansas, Donna of Surprise, Arizona, and Gloria of Somersworth, New Hampshire; his lifelong friend, Jim Kemp, who was like a brother to him; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him greatly.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Arthur’s life during a time of visitation on Saturday, July 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 12:00 noon.
Arthur will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering love for his family, and the simple way he lived his life. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
