Armand E. Proulx

Armand E. Proulx, 85, of Sanford died Monday, November 4, 2002.He was born August 5, 1917 to Ernest and Exilda Oulette Proulx. He attended Sanford schools until the age of twelve, when he left to work in the family business.In 1939 he married Geraldine "Rose" Patry. The couple had one child, a son Richard, born in 1941.During World War II, Mr. Proulx served for the U.S. Navy Seabees in Okinawa. After his years in the service he returned to the business he owned and operated, East Side Service and Welding on Cottage St. in Sanford.He enjoyed several hobbies: in earlier years he was a recreational pilot at the Sanford Airport; he owned and raced stock cars at Sanford Speedway; in the 1950's through 1970's he took pleasure in water skiing behind his antique Chris-Craft on Mousam Lake where he had a summer cottage. He was a talented welder and created decorative wrought iron items for homes and area businesses.In 1978 he retired and has since spent winters in Barefoot Bay, Fl.Predeceasing him was his wife Geraldine, "Rose" in 1995.Mr. Proulx is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Evelyn Proulx, five grandchildren and fives great-grandchildren.The family will hold an informal gathering for those who wish to share memories of Armand on Monday, November 18th from 6 to 8 PM at the Heald family Center in Springvale.
