Andrea L. Wedge
August 26, 1965 ~ April 28, 2013
SCARBOROUGH - Andrea L. Wedge, 47, passed on April 28, 2013 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House with her loving family by her side. She was born in Portland on August 26, 1965, the daughter of Earl and Nancy (Mullin) Viles. Andrea grew up in Portland and was a 1983 graduate of Portland High School. She earned her associate degree from Thomas College in 1985. While in college she met Dana Wedge and they were later married on November 4, 1989, at St. Patrick's Church in Portland. Andrea enjoyed life to its fullest and brought smiles to everyone who met her - she was the first to organize a get together for family or friends, whether for birthday parties or her annual trip to see Jimmy Buffet. Her greatest joy, however, came through her two boys whom she loved dearly and was so very proud of. She enjoyed sitting with her friends at baseball, soccer and hockey games watching her boys and telling others how proud she was of their accomplishments. Andrea is already missed, but she will never be forgotten by her friends, sisters, family, husband and especially her two boys. After graduating from college, Andrea began her career selling health insurance for Blue Cross/Blue Shield. In 2006 she was diagnosed with breast cancer and began her battle against the disease. Shortly after her diagnosis she joined the Maine Cancer Foundation to help bring awareness to the disease and raise money in support of cancer research. She also volunteered countless hours as part of a support group in Southern Maine counseling newly diagnosed breast cancer patients while silently continuing her fight against the disease. Andrea was also a founding Board member for CAREBaskets which provides support for newly diagnosed cancer patients. Andrea's goal following her own diagnosis was to raise awareness and funding for cancer research while battling the disease herself - she did both with grace and dignity. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Maine Center for Cancer Medicine and Gosnell House for their efforts and compassion during the past several weeks. Andrea is survived by her beloved husband of 24 years, Dana of Scarborough; two sons, Mitchell E. and Griffin J. Wedge of Scarborough; parents, Earl and Nancy Viles of Scarborough; two sisters, Julie A. Merrill and husband Gordon of Portland and Diana L. Vanier of Scarborough, nephew Ryan G. Merrill and two nieces, Carsyn L. and Isabella J. Vanier. Visiting hours will be held from 4-8 pm on Wednesday, May 1 at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial and burial at Calvary Cemetery will be private. Those desiring may make a memorial donation in Andrea's honor to the Maine Cancer Foundation, 170 US Route 1 Suite 250 Falmouth, ME 04105 or online at MaineCancer.org.Online condolences may be expressed below.
