Alta B. Cougle

Alta Bernice Cougle, 102, of Sanford died Wednesday, February 26, 2003, at Goodall Hospital in Sanford. Miss Cougle was born in Monticello Me. on November 21, 1900; She was the daughter of Fred and Annie Jones Cougle. She was educated at East Corinth Academy, the Farmington Normal School and Boston University. In 1922 Miss Cougle moved to Sanford, where she taught first grade at the Edison school for 20 years. She also spent 14 years teaching at the Pond Cove and Cottage Farms Schools in Cape Elizabeth. Miss Cougle was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church in Sanford. In her spare time Miss Cougle enjoyed tending to her garden and watching birds. She also enjoyed spending time doing arts, crafts and handwork. Several nieces and nephews survive her. Friends are invited to attend a 1:00 p.m. Memorial Service that will be held Saturday, March 1, 2003 at the First Baptist Church in Sanford.
