Allen R. Patterson, 84, of Kingston, New Hampshire, formerly of Sanford, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2026, following a long illness.
Allen was born on March 13, 1942, in Brewer, Maine, to Raymond and Clara Mae (Jackson) Patterson. He grew up in Dover-Foxcroft and attended local schools, graduating from Foxcroft Academy.
Following high school, Allen served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict from 1964 to 1967. After his military service, he attended Husson College, where he earned his degree in accounting.
Allen went on to build a long and successful career as a local certified public accountant, owning and operating his own business. Retirement was never really part of Allen’s plans, and he continued working until the age of 80, when his health no longer allowed him to do so.
He was a current member of Danville Baptist Church in Danville, New Hampshire, and had previously been a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Sanford. Allen was also a member of the Sanford Elks Lodge, a lifetime member of the VFW, and a member of the Maine Golf Association.
Allen was an avid golfer and enjoyed tennis, racquetball, skiing, and snowboarding. For a time, he was part of a traveling ballroom dancing group. It was through his love of ballroom dancing that he met his wife, Jo-Anne, and together they shared 30 years of marriage. Allen also spent many years studying French and Spanish and became fluent in both languages. He and Jo-Anne also enjoyed trips to Canada.
One of Allen’s greatest joys was spending time at the family camp on Sebec Lake, where he made many lasting memories with those he loved.
Allen was not one to simply blend into the crowd. He had a unique personality and was energetic, ambitious, and always willing to do things his own way. He was known for his sense of humor, his love of practical jokes and surprises, and his remarkable ability to fix just about anything.
Allen was predeceased by his parents and his brothers, Joel and Irving Patterson.
He is survived by his wife, Jo-Anne Patterson of Kingston, NH; four daughters, Kristen Jenkins and her husband, Al, of Naples, FL; Kelley Porazinski and her husband, John, of Exeter, NH; Katherine Williams and her husband, Doug, of Pennsylvania; and Kim Mann and her husband, Bryan, of York, ME; his grandchildren, Cooper and Matthew Jenkins, Emily and Jacob Porazinski, Mikayla, Madelyn, Thomas and Molley Herring, and Boden and Blake Mann; one great-granddaughter, Autumn Porazinski; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026 at 12:00 P.M. at Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 83 Stanley Road, Springvale. With a time of visiting and refreshments directly after at Black Heald and Walker Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale, ME.
