Alicia Dorthea Hall Roberts, 81 years old, of Alfred, ME died Thursday April 15, 2004 at the Greenwood Center in Sanford.Alicia was born in Sanford, ME on January 2, 1923, the daughter of Clarence and Georgeana Hall. Her family moved to Grafton, NH where Alicia attended elementary school. She graduated from Canaan High School, Canaan, NH in 1940, and attended Becker Junior College in Worcester, Massachusetts. In 1945 she moved to Alfred, ME where she met her husband, Paul, and married October 10, 1948.Alicia was employed by the Peerless Insurance Company in Keene, NH, and after moving back to Maine was employed by Goodall Sanford Mills. Alicia also worked for the Chamber of Commerce in Sanford and later became Secretary to the Dean of Admissions of Nasson College. When she retired n 1979 to spend time with her children and grandchildren she was employed as secretary to the Superintendent of SAD 57 school district.Alicia accepted the Lord as her Saviour at the age of 17 and was baptized in a brook in Grafton, NH. Her love for the Lord was evident to those around her as she served tirelessly in her local church and ministered to the needs of others. Alicia was an active lifetime member of the River of Life Christian Fellowship, formerly known as the North Alfred Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school for more than 50 years, sang in the choir and was a greeter. She and her husband, Paul, worked with the young people of North Alfred for many years opening their home many Friday evenings to the youth group to gather for games, food, and fellowship.In 1969 she was recognized by the Ladies Aid of North Alfred as Citizen of the Year for the help and encouragement in the lives of the young people and others in the North Alfred community. In 1996 she was recognized and honored by the North Alfred Baptist Church as a true Proverbs 31 woman of God. She contributed richly to the lives of many of the young women of her church by having Bible studies and discipling them. Alicia also wrote several poems, two of which were published by the National Library of Poetry. Her poem, "That Never-Failing Friend", was published in Best Poems of 1998 and "Song of Love" in the 1996 Amidst the Splendor edition.She is survived by her beloved husband Paul E. Roberts; two daughters, Kathryn Snyder and her husband George of Endicott, NY, Deborah r. Lewis and her husband Barry of Epsom, NH; two sons, Stephen P. Roberts and his wife Barbara of Waterboro, ME, and Charles Roberts of Sanford, ME; eleven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother Richard C. Hall and his wife Harriet of Alfred, a sister, Marion Kirker of Effingham, NH and several nieces and nephews.Friends and neighbors may call at the Heald Funeral Home, Springvale, ME from 3 to 5 PM on Sunday April 18th, and are invited to attend a funeral service for Alicia at 11:00 AM on Monday April 19th with the Pastor Raymond Noyes of Alfred, and Pastor Ken Weldon of Oakdale, CT officiating. Committal services will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Alfred, ME.In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Greenwood Center, 1142 Main St., Sanford, ME 04073.
