Alice B. Towne

Alice B. Towne, 83, of Biddeford, died February 27 at the UMass Medical Center in Worcester, Mass.She was born in Sanford on March 23, 1932, the daughter of Benoit and Helen (Vaillancourt) Nadeau, was raised in Sanford and was a graduate of Sanford High School.Alice moved to Springfield, Mass. and lovingly raised her 5 children there with her husband Donald Vennell, Sr. While a resident there, she was employed with Diamond Match. Mr. Vennell passed away in 1970. She moved to Pompano Beach, FL in 1976 where she was employed in the Registry of Deeds for Broward County. She returned to Maine in 1990 to be reunited with her high school sweetheart Hugh Towne. Back here in Maine, she worked in the fabric department of the Wal Mart store in Biddeford. Mr. Towne passed away in 2014.Alice has been a member of the VFW Ladies' Auxiliary since 1973.Besides her husbands, she was also predeceased by two sons, Donald Vennell, Jr. in 1992 and David Vennell in 1995.Survivors include a daughter Kathleen Fritz and son-in-law Bernhard of Cheney, WA, Linda James and son-in-law Jeff of Rockaway, NJ, Marilyn Vennell of Indian Orchard, MA, grandchildren Danny, James, David Jr., Aurora, Sarah, Andrew, Courtney, Matthew and seven great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 AM at St. Therse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church in Sanford. Burial will be in the spring in St. Ignatius Cemetery, Sanford.Arrangements are under the direction of Black Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Sanford-Springvale.
