Alice D. Stanley Sanford Alice D. Stanley, 94 formerly of Shapleigh died Thursday morning July 5, 2001 at the Newton Center in Sanford. Mrs. Stanley was born on February 12, 1907 in Limerick, ME. She was the daughter of Frank and Fidelia Swinerton Townsend whose father was a Blacksmith. She attended Springvale schools and later moved to Shapleigh. Mrs. Stanley would eventually move to Butlers Corner. Later on in life she and her husband spent the winters in Florida. In her early years, Mrs. Stanley worked in the shoe shop in Springvale, and later was mainly a stay at home mother. However she did help out at her husband's hardware store in Cornish. In her spare time she enjoyed collecting coins, taking pictures, putting together puzzles, and crocheting afghans, hats, and gloves for her family. Mrs. Stanley was also a member of the Emery Mills Baptist Church and in later years, she and Mr. Stanley attended the Sanford First Baptist Church. Her husband Ralph C. Stanley predeceased her in 1993 after 67 years of marriage. Surviving are three sons, Roland E. of Shapleigh, Ralph J. of Westbrook, Malcolm G. of Scarborough, and a daughter Marilyn L. Wentworth of Mary Esther, FL. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 5 great, great-grandchildren. An 11:00 AM funeral service for Mrs. Stanley will be held on Monday July 9, 2001 at the Heald Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale, ME. A 1:00 PM burial will take place at Highland Cemetery in Limerick. The Rev. Arthur Lutton will be officiating services.
