Albia Walker

Former Springvale resident Albia Walker 106, died on May 10, 2007 at Seal Rock Health Care in Saco Maine. Mrs. Walker was born on February 2, 1901 in South Berwick Maine. She was the daughter of Arthur and Marie Victorine Emma (Durfresne) Guertin. Her parents emigrated from Canada in 1901.Interestingly, both Albia and her future husband Allie came down with the infamous influenza in 1918. On Feb. 17, 1920 she married Allie Walker in Portland and lived on Weeman St. in Springvale. Mrs. Walker worked for many years at the Universal Shoe Co. in Sanford, retiring in 1971 at age 70.Mrs. Walker enjoyed gardening and ate a lot of vegetables. She also enjoyed a spot of apricot brandy now and then.Her family includes Elwyn of Hollis, Jacqueline Swett of Springvale, Ralph and Mary Walker of Oologah, OK and Charles Walker and his wife Kristina Cook of Derry, NH. Her family includes 4 children, 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.A service will be held at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale at 10:00 AM Saturday May 12th.
