Alberta M. Sevigny, 94, of Springvale, passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine. Alberta was born in Sanford, Maine, on August 13, 1929, daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Cormier) Melanson. She attended Holy Family School in Sanford and later in her life completed her high school education. She then continued to further her education at The University of Southern Maine where she completed a degree in Liberal Arts. She was a homemaker, loving wife, mother to her six children, grandmother and great grandmother. She had many varied interests in her life. She and her late husband operated "Memory Lane Gift Shop" where they sold Fenton Glass and other gift items. She also enjoyed buying and selling antiques and collectibles. She was an artist. She displayed her oil paintings and other works of art at the Art Gallery "Centre Artistra" in Springvale. She also wrote poetry and has had some of her poems published. In addition, she enjoyed taking trips with family which included visiting Washington, D.C., Foxwoods Resort Casino and New York City. She also enjoyed going out to play bingo, decorating Christmas wreaths and always spending time with her family. She was a woman ahead of her times. She was willing to stand up for what she believed in with determination and fierceness. She is predeceased by her late husband Francois O. Sevigny who she was married to for 63 years and her son Gerard Sevigny, sisters Anne Beaulieu, Bernadette Levesque, Mathilda Levesque, brother Laurie Melanson and son-in-law John L. Tuttle, Jr. She is survived by her children, Richard F. Sevigny and his wife Elaine of Sanford, Ann S. Tuttle of Sanford, Paula C. Sevigny of Springvale, Carol S. Hussey and her husband Scott of Shapleigh, Donald M. Sevigny of Springvale, grandchildren, Karen E. Watson and her husband Phil, Michelle S. Gagnon and her husband Patrick, Thomas R. Sevigny and his wife Julie, James P. Sevigny, Meghan T. Shields and her husband Jesse, fourteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, sister, Doris Jalbert and close niece Rita Mailhot, sister-in-laws, Lorraine Sevigny, Aurore Beland and Cecile Melanson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 27th at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, located on North Avenue in Sanford. Interment will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery, located on Pine Street in Springvale.
