Albert Anthony Sico

December 30, 1952 ~ June 16, 2024
Resided in:
Sanford, Maine
Albert "AL" Sico Jr., 71, passed away on Father's Day, June 16th after a Heroic battle with Cancer.
Refusing to accept his diagnosis, AL approached the future with unparalleled strength and an infectious sense of humor. His positive attitude and determination to beat this disease resulted in him living an additional 8 years. An unheard of feat according to what he referred to as his "Dream Team".
AL leaves behind life long companion Janice Burpee who devoted her life to his care with Love and Compassion.
He is predeceased by his parents Albert Sico Sr., and Antonette (Demore) Sico.
His former wife, the late Shirley Murphy.
He leaves behind 3 adult children, Albert Sico III (Tonya) of Acton, ME, Kristy Lynch and Melody Sico both of Sanford. ME.
"Papa" to his grandchildren, Destiny, Gio and Koleby. AL recently welcomed great granddaughter Isla to the family.
Brother to Anthony (Cheryl) of Medford, MA., Donna and Louis Sico, Antonette (Dennis) all of Somerville, MA. Frank (Linda) of Everett, MA and John (Crystal) of FLA.
The Burpees, the late Michael, Kathy, Douglas, the late Brian, Mark, Sandra and Kim.
He leaves behind many nieces and nephews that he adored. And they adored him.
Born and raised in the city. AL felt his best in the outdoors. He loved the serenity of country living and spent a great amount of time at his camp in Lincoln, ME.
An avid fisherman, Al's claim to fame was assisting the crew of the popular series "Fishing New England." After a full day on the water with not a fish caught, the crew noticed AL's hefty string of fish and asked him the secret to his success? With delight, he shared his personal hand tied flies and allowed them to use his fishing gear. Soon their boat had great success allowing them to wrap up the show. The rolling credits thanked AL in their comments, bestowing upon him New England's Fisherman of the Year Award. He proudly displayed this in his sporting goods shop AL's Bait and Tackle in Cambridge. MA.
It was here he was often caught giving away his merchandise to anyone less fortunate. Once gifting a Mother and her five children with brand new sneakers.
A strong man with a big heart.
Al was a man that wore many hats. In his younger days AL loved to inform people he was a Sanitation Engineer (Trash Collector) for the state of Mass.
Having a muscular build, AL competed in many weight lifting competitions. He often lifted more than his own weight. Once moving a car that was illegally blocking his driveway.
This healthy workout regime and healthy eating paid off as he was recruited to be the "Bouncer" at a trendy 70's Disco, Flappers. This night position coincidentally was across the street from his day job of Constable/Store Detective of the popular chain Zayres.
Sadly, his final years in construction (sheetrock taper) rendered him disabled.
Born into a large Italian family, it came as no surprise that AL was a phenomenal cook! Specializing in authentic Italian food, the most delectable smells often permeated his neighborhood. You could tell the degree of your friendship simply by whether he shared the recipe for his outrageously delicious sauce!
All of these memories we will hold dear. His Battle is over. May he rest peacefully in God's Heavenly Light.
Al's family would like to thank all of the health care professionals at SMHC and the New England Cancer Center for the care and compassion shown to Al and his family members during his period of declining health. They were not only caregivers but became extended family members through this process.
Al requested there be no wake.
However his family will be hosting a Celebration of his Life. Date and Specifics will be announced shorty.
