Moreau, 79, of Scarborough, Maine, died Wednesday November 7, 2001 at The Maine Medical Center after a long illness.He was born on June 5, 1922 in Bromtownville, Quebec, Canada the son of Josaphat and Lucienne Lemelin Moreau and moved to Sanford at a young age, where he attended local schools.Mr. Moreau served as a veteran in The U.S. Army during WWII. He was in the 374th Field Artillery Battalion 100 Division where he received The Purple Heart and The Bronze Star. During the depression as a young man, Mr. Moreau was a member of The CCC.He worked and retired from The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Shop #51 as an electrician, retiring in the early seventies after 19 years of service.Mr. Moreau also worked as a sheriff's deputy for York County for 12 years.He is a life member of the AMVETS, The American Legion and The VFW all of Sanford. He served as a Commander for The VFW for 3 years. He was a member of NARFE and AARP.Mr. Moreau enjoyed ice fishing, hunting and bowling. He loved playing music, especially the violin.He is survived by his daughters, Pauline Angers of Springvale, Arline Cantin of Acton; brothers Edmond Moreau of Sanford and Henry Moreau of Lebanon; a sister Germaine Cote of Sanford; he is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.He was predeceased by his wife Yvonne Moreau who died in November of 2000.Relatives and friends may call from 2:00-4:00 PM & 6:00-8:00 PM on Friday at Heald Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale, where a Veterans of Foreign War service will be held at 5:45 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:00 AM in Notre Dame de Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, 10 Payne Street, Springvale.
