Adeline T. Weeks

April 6, 2013
Adeline T. Weeks, of Springvale, died on April 6, 2013 in Sanford, Maine. She had just celebrated her 96th birthday with family on Sunday, March 31st. The daughter of Perley and Josie Towle, she was born in 1917 and raised in Freedom, New Hampshire. She graduated from Parsonsfield Seminary in 1933 where she was the class valedictorian as well as the leading scorer on the girl's basketball team. She had a life changing event at the age of 17 when she was asked by the Holmgren's (a couple from New York City) to be a "nanny" for two young girls, Gail and Francis. In the next six years, the small town girl took every advantage of what the big city had to offer and, as important, remained very close to the Holmgren's for the rest of her life. In 1942 she married Joseph T. Weeks of East Parsonsfield, Maine. They lived in love until his death in 1978 and they raised two children, Maureen and Michael, who were loved dearly by their parents. Adeline worked for many years as an office manager for Romac Orchards in Sanford, Maine, where she was active in youth baseball organizations and in the Congregational Church. She loved watching all pro sports, hockey, football, basketball but baseball was her lifelong favorite. She had a wonderful collection of lions and she loved collecting rocks, especially amethysts. She was a voracious reader throughout her life, with a passion for English detective novels. In fact she was an acknowledged Anglophile. She was a published author, enjoyed drawing and writing poetry. She loved to travel and went to Europe on several occasions. She is survived by a son-in-law William LeLacheur of Detroit, Michigan and a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Karen Weeks of Canton, Massachusetts She also had a grandson, Thomas Weeks of Waltham, Massachusetts. She only had one grandchild but she showered Thomas with enough love to make up for any lack of numbers. She was especially happy to have been able to become well acquainted with Thomas's lovely lady friend, Melissa Myers. Until the day of her death, she was blessed with the love and attention of many friends and relatives, with her niece Sharon Tyler and second "son" Tom Cousens being particularly close. As Adeline said many times over the past years and again on her recent birthday, "I have had a wonderful life."A funeral service for Adeline will be held on Thursday at 1PM at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale.Condolences may be expressed at www.blackfuneralhomes.com
