Louis “Louie” Michael Savard

December 28, 1943 ~ October 25, 2026

Born in: Portland, Maine
Resided in: Scarborough, Maine

Scarborough – Louis “Louie” Michael Savard, 82, passed away on October 25, 2026, peacefully in his sleep at the Enclave in Scarborough. Louie was born on December 28, 1943, in Portland, son of the late Lorenzo and Marian (Qualey) Savard.

Louie was born and raised in Portland’s Libbytown. After his father passed away, he stepped up to help care for his mother and three sisters. A homebody at heart, his favorite escape was just a 30-minute drive away to his camp on Highland Lake in Windham.

He worked as an industrial plumber and pipefitter and was fiercely proud of his over 50 year UA union membership. His trade often required long-distance travel away from home, working hard to support his family. Naturally handy, he helped maintain his home and camp, always puttering around and fixing things.

A man of deep faith, he was a lifelong member at St. Patrick’s Church until its closing, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also deeply generous, frequently using his skills to help friends and neighbors with plumbing or everyday tasks, and he valued the close, lifelong friendships he kept over the years.

Outside of work, he enjoyed gardening and took pride in his garden. In his retirement, he took up baking, making yummy fruit pies to share with family and friends. While he was happiest close to home, his children eventually broadened his horizons with memorable trips to Ireland, Germany, and the Caribbean.

Though a man of few words, Louie loved his children and grandchildren immensely, and took a quiet, profound pride in their education and successes. He is remembered for his strong work ethic, union pride, unwavering faith, and his steadfast devotion to his family.

Louie was predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Loretta (Hamm) Savard; brother, Joseph Savard; and partner of 12 years, Ruth Bridges. He is survived by his children, Michael Savard and his fiancé, Elizabeth “Happy” Guibeb, Christine and her husband Jeff Hamm, and Lisa Savard; grandchildren, Sarah and her husband Zane Speece, Samantha and her husband Alex Michel, Jacob and his wife Jessica Savard, and Noah Savard; great-grandchildren, Theodore Speece and Elowyn Savard; sisters, Marie Solak, Anne Letourneau, and Jeanne and her husband Steve Silverman; and Ruth’s daughter, Cindy Bridges.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to The Enclave of Scarborough and Gentiva Hospice for their excellent care of Louie.
