Pauline R. Smeriglio (King)
March 3, 1943 ~ January 30, 2026
Scarborough – Pauline R. Smeriglio (King) was born March 3, 1943 to Paul and Rita (Bixby) King in Haverhill, Massachusetts and she passed on January 30, 2026, after a long and fierce battle with Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia.
After graduating from Haverhill High School in 1961 Pauline went to work at Western Electric. It was there that she met Vincent Smeriglio. Pauline and Vin were married in September 1964, and the couple made their home and raised their children in Salem, New Hampshire. In 2001 they renovated a home on North St in Methuen, MA where they raised their grandson.
Pauline had several jobs before retiring in 2006. Most notably she worked at Soule School as a teacher’s aide, Cuomo’s as a bookkeeper, the IRS processing returns, and at Michael’s Crafts helping customers and building her crafting stash.
Pauline was an avid reader, consuming two to three books a week, and passing her love of reading and libraries to her children. She enjoyed needlework and crafting, sharing and selling her handiwork at many fairs over the years. Pauline was also an avid gardener, taking pride in her many flower gardens as well as house plants that thrived in her care. She was the penultimate puzzler, completing crosswords and sudoku puzzles in pen.
It cannot go unsaid that Pauline was also a sports fan. Whether she was cheering on her children, grandchildren or her beloved Celtics and Red Sox, she was forever ready to talk about games, plays, and players.
Throughout the years Pauline opened her heart and home to Chris and David’s numerous friends. She was known for sending these friends homemade food in care packages, cross stitching Christmas stockings, and having everyone’s special snack on hand, just in case they stopped in to visit. She was always ready with a smile and her dry humor and quick wit were unmatched.
Pauline was predeceased by her husband, Vincent; her sister, Jeanne Felch; and her parents. She is survived by her daughter, Christine and husband, Matthew Albert of Portland, Maine; her son, David Smeriglio of Waldoboro, Maine; grandchildren, Zayn Rosewood Albert and Jakob Smeriglio Anderson; as well as her sisters, Dianne (Fred) Hinds, Mary (Dave) Peabody; her brother, Ray (Mary) King; her brother-in-law, Jim (Joanna) Felch; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home of Portland. Burial will be at Baldwin Hill Conservation Cemetery, Fayette, Maine on Friday, February 6, 2026. A casual reception to honor Pauline will be held on February 22, 2026, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at Windham Restaurant, 59 Range Road, Windham, NH.
