Steven W. Gonthier

January 27, 1955 ~ January 22, 2026

Steven W. Gonthier, 70, of Acton, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, January 22, 2026.

Steven was born on January 27, 1955, in Dover, New Hampshire, the son of Paul and Patricia (Waterman) Gonthier. He grew up in Somersworth and attended local schools. Following high school, Steven proudly enlisted in the United States Army. After returning home from military service, Steven began working in construction. Following a serious workplace accident, he became disabled, a challenge he faced with resilience and determination. Despite life’s hardships, Steven maintained a sharp sense of humor and an unmistakable presence, never hesitating to speak his mind and always ready to make others laugh.

Steven had a lifelong love of music and enjoyed playing the drums, even performing in a band during his younger years. He was passionate about sports cars and took great pride in owning and working on several over the years. Summers were especially meaningful to Steven and his family, spent at their camp on Merrymeeting Lake in New Durham, New Hampshire, where he delighted in boating and taking his children tubing and waterskiing on the lake.

An avid hobbyist, Steven enjoyed operating remote-control planes and boats and even took flying lessons, fulfilling a lifelong fascination with aviation. At home, he found simple joy in watching movies, observing the wildlife around his house, and spending quiet time with his family.

Steven was a devoted husband and a kind, loving father who cherished time spent at home with his loved ones. He had a deep love for animals, especially his dogs, Jake and J.D., who were constant companions and brought him great comfort and happiness.

He was predeceased by his parents and by his brother, Paul Gonthier.

Steven is survived by his beloved wife, Catherine Gonthier of Acton; his two children, Heather Legere and her husband Larry of North Berwick, and Mike Gonthier of Berwick; five grandchildren, Megan Donahue, Braden and Carson Legere, and Taylor and Troy Gonthier; two brothers, Richard Gonthier of East Rochester and Norman Gonthier of Dover; his niece, Stacey Gonthier; and his faithful dogs, Jake and J.D.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday, February 2nd, at Black-Heald & Walker Funeral Home, located at 580 Main Street in Springvale. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Evergreen Cemetery in Berwick.

Arrangements are under the direction of Black-Heald & Walker Funeral Home, Sanford–Springvale.

Steven will be remembered for his honesty, humor, love of family, and the full-hearted way he lived his life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
