Gerald M. Stewart, 80, of Sanford, passed away Thursday May 19, 2005, following a brief illness at Maine Medical Center in Portland. He was born in Kittery, Maine on November 17, 1924 a son of Robert and Adeline (Simmons) Stewart.Mr Stewart served his country during WWII in the United States Navy in the Atlantic and Pacific Fleets. After the war he continued his career with the military working on submarines as a Fire Control Technician. Mr. Stewart was a communicant of St. Ignatius Church. He was also a lifetime member at large of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Fleet Reserve Association and the Tin Can Sailors.He particularly enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed camping and fishing and huntingHe is predeceased by his wife, Pearl (Annis) Stewart who passed away on March 8, 2001. He is also predeceased by his brothers, Robert Stewart, Paul Stewart, Ray Stewart, and George Stewart, one great grandson, Dillon. He is survived by his three daughters, Gail A. Hutchins and her husband Earle of York, Maine, Gerri Stewart-Coy and her husband Bill of Brookfield, NH and Shelly A. Carpenter and her husband Scott of Sanford, Maine, one brother, Lawrence Stewart of Kittery, one sister, Anita French of Fullerton, CA, 6 grandchildren, 7great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.At his request there will be no public services.Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to a charity of one's choice.Arrangements are under the direction of the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home 29 Winter Street Sanford Maine.
