Mildred G. Adjutant, 98, of Sanford and formerly of Acton died on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at the Newton Center in Sanford.Mildred was born in Elmsett, Ipswich, Suffolk, England on January 27, 1909 to Henry and Louisa Clarke Kennington. She was a 1923 graduate of Elmsett School. Mrs. Adjutant took care of her mother after she finished school and worked as a governess in England following WWII. She married her late husband, Foster Adjutant, while still living in the United Kingdom and together they moved to the U.S. in 1949.As a younger woman, Mildred was a very accomplished athlete excelling in tennis, bicycling and bowling. She enjoyed making hand hooked and braided rugs and was also an excellent cook. She also enjoyed watching television and was particularly fond of The Price is Right and the Lawrence Welk Show.Surviving are Mildred's favorite niece, Virginia Simpson, of England and several other nieces and nephews located around the world.A period of visitation will be held at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street in Springvale from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, April 20, 2007. A graveside service will be held later in the spring at the Acton-Milton Mills Cemetery located in Milton Mills, New Hampshire. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 1 Main Street, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.
