Raymond L. Hackett

Raymond L. Hackett, 40, passed away as a result of a drug overdose on October 25, 2019 at his residence in Sanford. He was born in July 17th, 1979 to Lawrance and Jane (Caron) Hackett in Bangor. He attended Sanford High School and graduated in 1997. Raymond loved and excelled at sports as a child and in high school, where he was on the wrestling team, played baseball, basketball and football. One of his proudest life's accomplishments was obtaining a job for the New England Patriots as a ball boy at the young age of 16.Outwardly he looked like he had it all; intelligence, sense of humor, confidence, athletic ability, broad smile, wit and the ability to connect and engage with anyone. But inside he had demons and a tormented spirit that he fought his entire life. The craving that comes from true addiction was more than he could overcome, his ability to hide and disguise his addiction proved superior. Those who knew him, loved him with all of our hearts, but we now know that was not enough. He was always the life of the party, who had the potential to do anything. We grieve for the life he never had, the holidays he never got to celebrate with family, the family of his own he never had an opportunity to create. This isn't an attempt to assign blame for Ray's death. It's not to vent anger and frustration at a world full of people who do not understand addiction, or empathize with those plagued by the disease. I write this obituary in hope that it may prove an insight to those that need to change their behavior on day at a time. If you are struggling with addiction, remember that there are people who love you, don't be afraid or ashamed to ask for help. Know that hundreds of thousands of families who have lost someone to this disease are rooting and praying for you. Ray's struggles have ended. He is finally at peace; we will miss his jokes and laugh, his love for food and cooking, his smile and all of the memoires we had yet to make.He is predeceased by his parents, his paternal grandmother, Florence Gillibrand, his maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Caron and his uncle, Wayne Caron. He leaves behind a twin sister, Janellen (Hackett) McCabe and her husband Milton, his nephews Parker McCabe and Milton McCabe IV ,a niece Kayla McCabe, his aunt Marsha Caron of Sanford, his aunt Pat Bower and her husband Lawrance Jr. of Kittery, uncles Ted Hackett and his wife Cindy of Dover, Lenny Hackett and his wife Bonnie of South Berwick, Robert Hackett of Eliot, and several cousins Friends and family are invited to an hour of visitation on Friday, November 1, at 10:00 A.M. at Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale, followed by a graveside service at Oakdale Cemetry in Sanford.
