Resided in:
South Portland, ME
South Portland-After a short illness, Regina Lynn Joyce received her angel wings on Saturday, September 2, 2023.
Although we are heartbroken, we know she was greeted by her Mom and Dad and all of those that went before her.
Everywhere Gina went she made friends, whether it was driving around her neighborhood on her electric wheelchair, being a student at the Cerebral Palsy Center, as a camper at the Pine Tree Camp in Rome, Maine, or volunteering at the Maine Mall. She made lifelong friends all over the world.
We considered her the Mayor of her neighborhood. Nothing happened on our street that she didn’t know about.
She graduated from the Cerebral Palsy Center in Portland, Maine. Although she received her education while there, she always said she just went for the social aspect.
She was a camper at Pine Tree Camp for over 20 years, spending the summers swimming, boating and enjoying the outdoors. Packing for the camping princess was always a big ordeal.
She volunteered at the Maine Mall, covering lunch shifts for many kiosk workers. She loved doing this and took pride in her job.
Gina loved to hear all about the adventures of her only niece, Melissa and her husband, Bobby, her great-nephews Joseph, Tucker and Jake and her great-niece, Katherine. She loved them all so much and was so proud of them and told everyone she met all about them.
Regina was chosen to be the Easter Seal Child for the state of Maine in 1970. Through this she traveled around the state with Governor Kenneth Curtis making public appearances. She always said this was her 15 minutes of fame.
In her later years, Gina enjoyed trips to Disney, traveling, taking coffee runs with her brother-in-law David Twombly, going out to lunch and to the movies with Judy Twombly and most especially spending time with her family, whether it be at pool parties or holiday events.
She was predeceased by her mother, Faye L. Joyce, and her father, John M. Joyce, aunts and uncles: Mary and Lefty Griffin; Martin (Beano) and Helen (Hayden) Joyce; Bridget and Peter Malia; Margaret and Mert Concannon; and special cousin, Martin Griffin. She was also predeceased by close family friends Jack and JoAnne Coyne and Terry and Ken Fox.
Regina is survived by her sister Katherine and her husband, David Twombly of South Portland. A niece, Melissa and husband Robert Cunningham of Cumberland; three great nephews Joseph Norwood, Jake Cunningham, Tucker Norwood, and a great niece Katherine Norwood, all of Cumberland; her aunt Katherine Joyce of Portland; cousins Joyce Malia, Jeannie Malia, John Griffin and Lisa Gale. She is also survived by numerous cousins in Boston and in Ireland.
Visiting hours celebrating Regina’s life will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023 from 9:00am to 10:30am at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, prayers will be recited at 10:15am followed by an 11:00am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, Black Point Road, Scarborough, ME. I am so sorry she was such a sweet heart. I used to work at Payless where she would come to see me. Always with a big smile and a contagious laugh
She will be so missed. She lit up every room she entered and was a beacon of joy and positivity. May she rest in peace.
Regina was a wonderful friend to my daughter, Justine Bois, who shared many years with her at the Cerebral Palsy Center. She also was such a familiar face when we went to the Maine Mall. She kept us informed of Faye and John’s activities and throughout their trials, and also of many happenings in the Mall. Because of prior commitments that we cannot change, we are unable to attend her services tomorrow. We will always remember her with fondness and love.
With our deepest sorrow and also gratitude to have known her.
Sincerely,
Thek Bois family ,Justine, David, and Sandra
Regina loved her family so much!
She always had a great smile.
She was such a strong woman.
How strong she was.
I only met Regina once. She was the sister of a wonderful friend of mine. Regina was a very kind and caring young lady.
Beautiful and sweet
Regina was an amazing person, that I loved and admired. Her strength, strong sense of self, humor and love for all those around her was, and will continue to be an inspiration. With love and condolences. Jimmy and Stephanie Melaugh
She was the Mayor of Whitworth/Applewood. She was our eyes and ears; our clarion. Our family always looked forward to her frequent visits on her rounds of the neighborhood and now we’ll have a difficult time knowing we’ll no longer enjoy her bouncy demeanor. Our thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathy go out to Kathy, David and the rest of her family.
Regina brought a smile to everyone who worked at the Maine Mall .
hi To Katherine and David and family, I was so sorry to hear of Regina passing. I new Reginia for a long time. I used to live on Clifford st and she would whell or wheel chair around the neighborhood. I used to see her at the mall. I will miss her a lot. Take care. From, Kristen Tully
Gina, you were always the smartest one in the room. You took great pride in keeping us all informed at what was going on. We will all miss you immensely. Love, cousin Maureen, the Boston relatives
I have so many memories of Regina enjoying the parties by the pool. She was always smiling.
Thinking of you all at this sad time.
