KENNEBUNKPORT - William Michael Roach, Sr., 85, died peacefully Wednesday afternoon, July 17, 2019, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, with his four children and family at his side. He was born in Lynn, MA, April 16, 1934, a son of John Patrick and Elizabeth (Mahoney) Roach and was a graduate of Boston Trade School. He served in the United States Navy for just over 6 years from 1956 to 1962 with his last duty assignment on the USS Davis as a Yeomen. On September 9th, 1961, he married Maureen Conroy and they lived in Roxbury, MA until moving to Kennebunkport, ME to raise their family. He started Roach Chimney Company in 1972 which he operated for decades. His most recent employer was St. Ann's Church located on Ocean Avenue in Kennebunkport, were he was the Sexton / Groundskeeper for 25 years before his retirement. Bill's family was his life's focus and he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed swimming, great food and the occasional Guinness. He will be forever loved by his family; son, William Michael Roach, Jr. of London, England; son, Colin Philip Roche and his wife Hilary of Boca Raton, Florida; daughter, Julianne Bailey and her husband Louis of Wells, Maine; and daughter, Chrysa Astrea Ragnarsson and her husband Robert of Kennebunkport, Maine; eleven grandchildren; four living siblings (Eileen Bradley, Joseph Roach, James Roach, and Thomas Roach); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Maureen; brother, John Roach; and sister, Margaret DiMarino. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 27, at 12 noon at St. Martha's Catholic Church, 30 Portland Road, Kennebunk, Maine 04043. Relatives and friends are invited to speak and share their memories of Bill at the service.
