In Loving Memory of Dorothy Louise Berti Portland - Dorothy Louise Berti, 87, a cherished mother and beloved friend, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2024 in Falmouth, surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was born in Boston on October 2, 1936, daughter of the late Victor and Dorothy (Hayes) Berti. Dorothy attended Fisher College where she earned her associate’s degree. Throughout her life, Dorothy made a lasting impact on communities across New England, having been a resident of Boston, Medford, Southwest Harbor, Cumberland, and Portland. Dorothy worked as a Legal Secretary at Thompson McNaboe, Ashley & Bull, and Petrucelli and Martin in Portland. Additionally, she served as a valued member of the staff at Cheverus High School in Portland. She brought her warmth, generosity, and humor wherever she went, enriching the lives of those around her. Dorothy was predeceased by her sister, Diane Venneri. She is survived by her two children, whom she adored with all her heart, Margarete Schnauck and husband Sam Mangino of North Yarmouth, and John and his wife Alexa Schnauck of Marshfield; beloved grandchildren, Keller Schnauck Gardner, Tyler and Eliza Schnauck, and Samantha Mangino; two brothers, James Berti and Victor Berti. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Dorothy with her family in private. She will be buried in Boston at St. Michael Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 172 State St. Portland. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Dorothy's memory to the Dementia Society of America (https://www.dementiasociety.org/).

  1. I am saddened to learn of “Aunt” Dotty’s passing. She was a life-long friend of my Mother, Suezette DiMercurio, was Mom’s maid of honor, she was godmother to my sister Susan and she was like a family member to us in our younger years. She was a gracious and loving person and I am fortunate to have known her.
