Born in Newburyport, Massachusetts, on June 4, 1937, Bill led a life rich in family, work, and simple joys.\n\nA devoted father, Bill took pride in being the father of his late son, John Howard, and daughter, Melinda Howard. Bill was married for 35 years to Rebecca Howard, whom he met at a dance, creating a partnership filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures. Patricia Howard, his first wife and the mother of his children, preceded him in death.\n\nBill's professional journey included serving the Navy as a tool cutter and grinder, overcoming claustrophobia to ensure the submarines he worked on were safe and well made. He was proud to serve for six years from 1956 to 1961; one key moment he remembered as a Navy Veteran was his ship being in Cuba when the regime change happened. For 35 years, he continued his dedicated service to the U.S. government at various naval shipyards, contributing his skills to places like the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and the Trident Refit Facility in Kings Bay, Georgia.\n\nEducation was a priority for Bill, as he attended night school at Lowell University, MA, earning his BA; a source of immense pride for him. His love for learning extended to completing courses at Lowell Tech.\n\nOutside of work, Bill had a passion for trading stocks and managing investments, showcasing his financial acumen. He enjoyed making the holidays memorable for his children, instilling in them the importance of celebration and joy.\n\nBill was an avid bargain hunter, never one to turn down a good deal. His love for camping and fishing created cherished memories with his children during their formative years.\n\nTogether with his wife, Rebecca, Bill found joy in sightseeing and travel, exploring destinations like Lake George, St. Augustine, Daytona, and the Amelia Islands. He was a loving and caring partner, always ensuring Rebecca felt cherished.\n\nHis granddaughter, Mira Strout, held a special place in Bill's heart, and he delighted in spending time with her, always sharing a special smile.\n\nWilliam Daniel Howard is survived by his wife Rebecca Howard, his daughter Melinda Howard, his stepson Chris Strout, and his granddaughter Mira Strout.
