Cape Elizabeth - Virginia M. "Ginny" Black, 81, passed away on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at home with her loving family by her side. Born in Portland, Ginny was the daughter of the late Richard and Mary Catherine (Phee) DeNeill. She was raised in Portland and graduated from Portland High School Class of 1955. In 1959, Ginny was introduced to Richard "Dick" Black through a coworker. They clicked immediately, married in 1960 and began a lifetime of love and togetherness. As they began their family, Ginny and Dick moved to Cape Elizabeth where they raised 3 children: Susan, David and Michael. Ginny worked for over 25 years as a Clerk at the Supreme Judicial Court. She retired in the late 1990's and spent her retirement doing what she loved. Ginny enjoyed traveling with her husband, golfing, playing tennis, walking on the beach and eating great food. She especially enjoyed wintering in Florida near her sister, Judy and brother, Bill. Together, Dick and Ginny, Bill and Lorraine, and Judy and Jim spent their winters enjoying everything life had to offer, but most importantly, each other's company. Ginny also loved gardening and was an avid sports fan. Family was the most important aspect of her life. As far as she was concerned, the best time spent was when she was with her husband, children, siblings, and especially her grandchildren. She was a kind, caring and thoughtful person who always put everyone else's needs before her own. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her, especially her grandchildren, who called her Nana. Ginny's family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Southern Maine, and a special thank you to Ginny's nurse, Nancy, for their kind and compassionate care. Ginny is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Richard of Cape Elizabeth; daughter, Susan Ray and husband Jim of South Portland; sons, David Black and wife Pamela of Scarborough and Michael Black and wife Kathleen of Bedford, NH; grandchildren, Nicholas and Thomas Ray, Grace, Anna and Julia Black, and Benjamin and Daniel Black. She is also survived by her sister, Judith Lynch and husband James of Fort Pierce, Florida; brother, William DeNeill and wife Lorraine of Stuart, Florida. Visiting Hours celebrating Ginny's remarkable life will be held on Monday, August 27 from 4-7PM at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 28 at 11AM at Riverside Cemetery, Cape Elizabeth.
