OLD ORCHARD BEACH - Sean Patrick Carlin, of Old Orchard Beach, Maine passed away unexpectedly on June 23, 2011. Sean was born on June 10, 1984, in Canton, Massachusetts, to Christina Maria Vacca and Sean Francis Carlin. Sean graduated in 2002 from Old Orchard Beach High School where he was a star basketball player. He attended Southern Maine Community College, studying media communications, a field that allowed him to explore his wide realm of creative gifts and his passion for photography, graphic art and writing music. Sean worked at several area restaurants, and was currently employed at On the Border in South Portland. Following in the steps of his grandfather, Bill, Sean was a chef of great talent and particularly loved to cook specialty dinners enjoyed by his grandmother and family, who meant the world to him. Sean excelled at many sports, including football, basketball, skiing and golf. His love of adventure and travel led him to activities such as skydiving and a recent trip to Greece where he had the time of his life. Sean recently blessed his family with two very special days- a birthday with his mother, brother, sister and grandmother, Dorothy, at her home in Cape Elizabeth, and Father's Day with his father, brother, and grandfather, Bill. Sean always will be remembered by all for his beautiful smile, which was larger than life. Sean was predeceased by his adored grandfather and best friend, D. D. Vacca, with whom he shared a passion for basketball, particularly the Celtics. Sean is survived by his proud parents, Christina Vacca and Sean Carlin of Old Orchard Beach; his loving sister and brother, Shylea Carlin of Saco and Nicholas Carlin of Old Orchard Beach; his beloved maternal grandmother, Dorothy Vacca of Cape Elizabeth and paternal grandparents, William and Lois Carlin of Attleboro, Massachusetts; many loving aunts, uncles and cousins; and innumerable friends, all of whom will miss him and love him forever. Visiting hours will be held 4:00 - 8:00 pm Sunday, at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11:00 am, Monday, at St. Bartholomew's Church, 8 Two Lights Road, Cape Elizabeth. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Cape Elizabeth.
