SOUTH PORTLAND - Ruth G. Minihane, 90, of Kaler Road, died Sunday, June 8, 2014, at Falmouth by the Sea. She was born in Lewiston on November 28, 1923, a daughter of Henry P. and Elsie M. (Brown) Guay. She graduated from Lewiston High School, class of 1941. She married William L. Minihane in Lewiston on June 7, 1947. They moved to South Portland in 1952 and raised their three children there. When her children were all in school, Ruth returned to work on a part-time basis. She worked in various positions at Maine Savings Bank and Hartford Insurance. She completed her career at the U. S. Customs Service. Ruth had a lifelong love for animals which began during her childhood visits to her grandparents' farm in Farmington. She loved tending her flower gardens, was a long-time member of the Osewantha Garden Club. She volunteered at the Hamlin School and South Portland Food Pantry. Ruth was a communicant of Holy Cross Church for more than fifty years. She is predeceased by her husband who died June 9, 1999. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Judge and her husband Charles of Portland and Nancy Chamberlain and her husband Paul of South Portland; a son, W. Michael Minihane and his wife Kathleen of Hanover, Massachusetts; eight grandchildren, Michael Minihane, Kyra (Minihane) Brissette, Justin Minihane, Nathan Minihane, Nicholas Judge, Patrick Judge, Matthew Chamberlain, and Peter Chamberlain; and two great-grandchildren, Jack Brissette and Timothy Minihane. The family would like to express their thanks to the wonderful caregiver at Falmouth by the Sea for their compassionate care of Ruth, especially during her final days. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1:00 pm, Friday, at Holy Cross Church, 124 Cottage Road, South Portland. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland. Arrangements are by Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland.
