Ronald B. Gramaglia

WINDHAM Ronald B. Gramaglia, 80, died suddenly and peacefully in his sleep on September 3, 2016. Ron was born in Mount Vernon, New York, on April 10, 1936, the first child of Alphonse John and Anne (Lombardi) Gramaglia. He graduated from Pelham Memorial High School in New York in 1953 and was a member of Tufts University Class of 1957. Ron had a long career with ATT, initially at Bell Telephone in New York, then in Basking Ridge, NJ, as a Division Manager. While in New Jersey he also worked to help restore space for and establish the Morristown Community Theater, whereupon he served as its Director of Volunteers. Upon retiring in 1998 to his wifes home state of Maine, Ron became an active volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. He cherished the friendships he formed as a member of Habitats Tuesday crew, and his boundless enthusiasm for socializing with friends was further evidenced by his commitment to the ROMEOs, an informal but well established group of like-minded, fun-loving retirees. Just hours before retiring on the night Ron passed away, he proclaimed in his usual fashion, Im terrific! His family, to whom he frequently made such proclamations, knows this to be true: Ron WAS terrific. His good natured, loving presence will be missed by all who knew him, and although his family mourns his passing, it is with deepest gratitude for his life. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Alan. Ron is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gloria Ricker; their five children and their spouses: Mary Gramaglia and Luis Lizarralde of McLean, VA, Clare and Evan Rashkoff of Lakeville, CT, Thomas Gramaglia and Margaret Leeson of Concord, MA, William and Marni Gramaglia of Milford, PA, and Charles and Lesley Gramaglia of Kensington, MD. He was the extremely proud grandfather of eleven: Nicolas and Thomas Lizzaralde; Daniel, Adam, Noah, and Rebecca Rashkoff; Abigail, Peter, and Silas Gramaglia; and Alexandra and Stephanie Gramaglia. He is also survived by his sister, Deidra Kubeck of Wilmington, NC; sisters-in-law, Angela Ricker and Lucy Sheehan, and his brother-in-law, Charles Ricker. Visiting Hours will be held on Friday from 3-5PM at the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 919 Roosevelt Trail, Windham. Interment to follow at Wentworth Ricker Cemetery in Poland Springs. 3. We were so sorry to hear of Ron’s passing. It was such a privilege to have had Ron as a part of Our lives over so many years. His intelligence, sense of humor, genuine concern for others,as well his basic human decency, are qualities which will always serve as an example for usin our daily lives. If only everyone were like Ron, what a wonderful world it would be.Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

  4. We are so sad to hear this news. I was looking forward to sometime overlapping in Maine again and going out on the motor boat. Ronnie was absolutely the best friend to our dad and I know Dad’s year was organized around Ronnie and Gloria’s visits to see plays in New York and his visits to Maine for cultural and outdoor adventures and shopping at L.L. Bean. We kept a list at our house in Darien of all the things we needed fixing for Ronnie’s visits. By the time he would come you had to pry open all the cabinets because they had no handles, only one out of every three lights worked and toilet paper and towels had to be kept on the floor because the holders had become unfastened. Ronnie would come for one of his visits (well we made it a work/visit) and by 8:45am the list was done. I hope there will be some great Pelham football pictures at the wake. We will miss Ronnie’s happy attitude, humor, tolerance and kindness. Love, Kristen, Katie, Bobby and Matt

  6. Dear Gloria and family, We were so saddened to hear of Ron’s passing. Both of you have been such a joy to know through the years as our neighbors. Ron was the first to welcome us to the neighborhood. I have very fond memories of working with him as a board member for the neighborhood association for a number of year. I will miss seeing him walk past the house for the daily or most often weekly walks. He was a kind, gentle soul and will be missed very much by us and many others in the neighborhood. Please know that Ellie and I are here for you anytime you need any help or just need a place to stop by. Hugs from Judy & Ellie
