Portland Robert M. Everest, Sr., 80, passed away peacefully Monday, February 13, 2017 at Maine Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Born in Portland on December 12, 1936, Bob was the son of the late Edward and Kathleen (Mitcheson) Everest. He graduated from Deering High School Class of 1955 and honorably served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. On July 11, 1959, Bob married the love of his life, Barbara Meehan. Together, they shared nearly 41 years of marriage until her passing in 2000. Bob and Barbara set a wonderful example for their children from their unwavering devotion and commitment to one another. Bob was a top producer at Roberts Office Supply for many years. His strong work ethic earned him the recognition of Top Salesman for several years including one year earning an all-expense paid trip to Hawaii, a trip him and Barbara would always remember. His territory was the mid-coast region of Maine, and occasionally he would bring his family along and make it a work and play stay at the Trade Winds Inn in Rockland. At the age of 59 Bob chose to go back to college and attain his Bachelors degree from the University Of Maine, something he had always wanted to do. Following his college graduation, Bob worked for UNUM until his retirement in 2002. Bob believed in volunteering and for many years he volunteered on the Jerry Lewis Telethon at the local TV station. He was also Post Commander of the Amvets Charles J. Loring Post 25 and a member of the Portland Eagles Casco Aerie #565. He enjoyed golfing, swimming, camping and loved dancing. The thing he loved most was spending time with his family. Bob always put family first above all else. He adored his 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchilden, who lovingly referred to him as Baboo. Bob will always be remembered for being an incredibly generous person, loving his family dearly and being the Life of the party! He is survived by his beloved children: Elizabeth Dexter and husband Jeffrey of Portland, Nadine Sawtelle and husband Ron of Gorham, Robert Everest, Jr. and wife Bridget of Westbrook and John Everest and wife Sue of Kennebunk; sister, Patricia Low of SC and brother, Edward Ted Everest and wife Linda of Old Orchard Beach. He is also survived his grandchildren, great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Visiting Hours will be held on Friday from 4-7PM at the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. Prayers will be recited at the Funeral Home on Saturday at 9:15AM followed by a 10AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Josephs Church, 673 Stevens Avenue, Portland.
