South Portland - Robert "Bob" Auld, 87, died on March 3, 2024. Bob was born on January 18, 1937 in Weymouth, Massachusetts. He was the son of the late William H. Auld and Mary Cameron Auld.
Bob attended Braintree schools including Braintree High School. He was an avid sports fan and played baseball and football while at Braintree High School. In later years Bob played softball in the Braintree "slush" league. Bob served 5 years in the National Guard with the 126th Artillery Company. Well known in Massachusetts by friends as "Sudsy" and better known by many more in Maine as "Popsy". He was a well-known figure around South Portland where he enjoyed meeting up with friends several times weekly for a game of cards and good company.
A world traveler, Bob travelled to England, Scotland, Italy, and Canada. He travelled extensively throughout the U.S in his younger days on his motorcycle to places including California, Montana, and South Dakota.
Bob is predeceased by the love of a lifetime, Donna L. Auld; and brothers, James, William and John.
Robert is survived by his seven children; Steven Auld, Catherine Oliver, Timothy Springer, Lee Mainit, Lynne Mulkern, Robert Auld and Michelle Williams. Bob was a beloved grandfather to, Justin, Corey, Taleisha, Jacob, Michael, Sofia, and Olivia; and a beloved great-grandfather to Anaistaisa, Cash, Justus, Avigail and Serafina; he is also survived by his siblings Richard Auld, Patricia Duffy, and sister-in-law, Sandra Auld whom he thought of as a second sister.
Bob will be laid to rest beside Donna at 1pm on Friday, March 8, 2024 at Brooklawn Memorial Park, 2002 Congress St. Portland. A celebration of Bob's life will follow at 2pm at the Moose Lodge, 19 Spring St. Scarborough.
Arrangements are under the direction of Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland.

I’m truly heartbroken to hear of Popsey’s loss. My condolences to his immediate family and all of the friends and family he made during his life. He’s a man I will never forget and am extremely grateful to have met and been friends with. Thank you for teaching me how to play scat, and thank you for all the advice and being a ray of sunshine on my cloudy days. Love you always old man ❤️
