Richard H. "Dick" Horton

South Portland- Richard Dick Henry Horton, 74, died Monday, November 10, 2014 after a long illness at Maine Medical Center in Portland. Dick was born October 25, 1940 in Portland, Maine the son of John S. and Mary E. Morris Horton. He attended Holy Cross School and graduated from Cheverus High School in 1959. He attended the University of Southern Maine for two years and graduated from the University of Maine at Orono in 1963. He worked for AP Warehouse during school and for a short time after. He then taught school in Albion, Maine for a year. He worked for Sun Savings Loan as a loan officer for many years and later as an office manager for Life Associates. Dick married the former Lucia Theresa DiBiase of Portland, Maine in 1963. They had three children. Lucy died suddenly in 2003. Dick was an intelligent, good, decent man with a wonderful sense of humor. He loved watching all sports and as a youth played a lot of baseball and played it well. Later in life he enjoyed going to the races. Dick and Lucy were lifelong friends with Scott and Susan Robinson of South Portland. Scott was a great friend to Dick Chauffeuring him to dialysis weekly, visiting with him at home and taking him to the races. Our family is forever grateful. The family would like to the Dr. James Wasserman and the staff at Southern Maine Dialysis for their kindness and help over the past few years. Also the staff at Pine Point Center in Scarborough which he really enjoyed during his recent stay. Dick is survived by his three children, Kelly Marie ODonnell of Windham, Karen Elaine Webber and her husband Jonn of Standish and Patrick Richard Horton and his wife Ginny and children Audrey and Camilla of Readfield. He is also survived by three brothers Michael (Evelyn) Horton of South Portland, Peter Horton of Gray and John Horton of Biddeford; seven sisters M. Patricia (Ronald) Caselden, Margaret Peggy Marston, Ann Horton and Theresa Horton of South Portland, Barbara (Dana) Williams of Yarmouth, Frances (Michael) Vessey of Scarborough and Catherine (Cameron) Boyd of Toronto, Canada; several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at 10:15 on Friday, November 14, 2014 at the funeral home followed by an 11:00am Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Cross Church, Cottage Road, South Portland. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Broadway, South Portland.
