P. Gregory Scully

PORTLAND - P. Gregory Scully, 61, of Portland, died January 10, 2013 at Springbrook Nursing Center in Westbrook, with his loving family by his side. He was born May 1, 1951 in Lewiston, a son of John Paul and Constance Margaret (Cullinan) Scully, Jr. He attended Sts. Peter and Paul School in Cumberland, Maryland; St. Joseph's in Lewiston, Holy Cross School in South Portland and graduated from Cheverus in 1969. Greg graduated from the University of Maine at Orono in 1973, where was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He married Susan Diane Blow on November 10, 1984. He was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church. Greg worked for Blue Rock Industries and later Pike Industries for over 30 years as Credit Manager. His last employment was with Nelson and Small as Director of Credit Operations in 2009. He was a member of Msgr. Houlihan Council of the Knights of Columbus and was a Columbian Squire as a youth. Greg loved all sports, especially the New England sports teams. For almost 30 years, he bowled for the "Scull Dawg Bowling Team." He also coached his children's youth sport teams for several years. He was predeceased by his parents. Surviving are: his wife Susan of Portland; a daughter, Mary Margaret Scully of Portland; a son, Samuel W. Scully of Westbrook; two sisters, Anne Scully Newman and her husband Richard T. of Harpswell, Constance Palys and her husband Frank of South Portland; two brothers, David A. Scully and his wife Kathleen of Littleton, MA, Kevin J. Scully and his wife Patricia of Waterville; several nieces and nephews, including Matthew Varney with whom he shared a special relationship. He is also survived by his aunts Mary B. Cullinan and Zita C. Hornidge. Visiting hours will be held from 2-7 p.m. on Monday, January 14th at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday at the chapel, followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Cross Church, Corner of Broadway and Cottage Road, South Portland. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
