Nedra Althea Devlin

SOUTH PORTLAND - Nedra Althea Devlin, 80, died peacefully on January 24, 2013 in Saco. She was born in South Portland on Nov. 13, 1932, the daughter of Roderick and Helen (Pollister) Baker. Nedra grew up in Portland and attended area schools. On Sept. 16, 1961 she married Louis Owen Devlin. Together they raised a family of eight children. Nedra was a homemaker who loved to bake, and was the happiest when spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in South Portland. Nedra worked for over 15 years at South Portland High School in their food service program, volunteered for the March of Dimes, and worked at South Portland polling stations during elections. Loved by many, Nedra always received first class treatment from her friends at IHOP and was considered the Queen of IHOP by her family. Her love of baking brought her recognition for she was awarded the blue ribbon for her 1st place coffee cake at the Cumberland County fair in 1999, one of her proudest accomplishments. In addition to her parents, Nedra is predeceased by her beloved husband, Louis, in 1990, and her sister, Shirley Erickson in 2009. She is survived by two daughters, Catherine Hehman and husband Jeffrey of Southbridge, MA, and Louann McDonald and husband Christopher of Saco; six sons, Vincent and wife Jane of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Stuart and wife Vickie of Wells, Bernard of Chula Vista, CA, Arthur of Newburyport, MA, Eugene and his significant other Odessa Gonter of Newton, NH, and Martin and his significant other Teari Cayford, and Teari's grandmother Norma Smith of Saco; 15 grandchildren, Kelly DeRice, Alexandra Pickering, Claudia Devlin, Luis Devlin, Kristen Arcand, Kaitlin Devlin, Eric Hehman, Lindsey Hehman, Tyler Hehman, Brendon McDonald, Michael Devlin, Margaret Devlin, Alexander Devlin, Abigail Devlin, and Dylan Devlin; 4 great grandchildren; brother, Bradley Baker of South Portland; niece, Bonnie Libby; nephew, Stephen Erickson; and a long list of close friends. Visiting hours will be held from 3-6 pm on Friday, Feb. 1, at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at 8:15 am, Saturday, at the chapel, followed by a 9 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Church, Main Street, South Portland. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.Online condolences may be expressed below.
