SCARBOROUGH - Maurizio Valentino Iuretig, 59, died on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, Maine, after an 18-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on February 21, 1958 in the small village of Mersino, Italy, he was the son of Celio Iuretig and Alma Ierep. He attended local schools, graduated from high school, and went on to receive his certificate from the Associazione Italiana Sommeliers in Italy. He spent several years as a waiter and wine steward in both Italy and Switzerland, becoming fluent in multiple languages at the same time. In 1986 he moved to Bermuda to take a position as a waiter at a hotel, where he met his future wife, Julia Jubb Iuretig. After two-and-a-half years of long distance dating, Bermuda to Maine, they married in York, Maine on May 20, 1989. Settling in Scarborough, Maine, they had two children, Anthony Celio Iuretig in 1993 and Peter James Iuretig in 1995. Maurizio worked in various positions in the retail clothing and food industries, and managed the restaurant at the White Barn Inn for five years. He eventually set his sights on the wine business, and in 2014 he finally landed his dream job as a wine salesman for Nappi Distributors. Although well known for his extensive wine knowledge, Maurizio had talents in the kitchen that were equally impressive. Over the years he prepared hundreds of extraordinary dishes. His love for food and wine was only rivaled by his joy of being around family and friends. He will also be remembered for his kind and generous disposition, and gentlemanly manner. Maurizio is survived by his wife Julia, sons Anthony and Peter, father Celio, sister Silvia Iuretig and husband Giampaolo Tomasetig, brother Vittorino Iuretig, brother Antonino Iuretig and wife Angela Sigura, sister Vania Iuretig and husband Massimo Renso, brother-in-law James T. Jubb and wife Margaret Jubb, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Alma and his brother Sandrino Iuretig. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at both New England Cancer Specialists and Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. Sincere thanks also to the countless family members and friends who continually offered their love and support over the past 18 months. 1. My heartfelt condolences to your family.

I knew Maurizio as an ally and as a competitor in the wine business. His kind spirit was luminous and inalterable. I sincerely pay tribute to this good man with the only thing that makes sense right now–my grief.
