South Portland- Maurice A. Eaton, 80, of Harriet St. died peacefully on March 30, 2016 at his home with his loving family by his side. Maurice was born in Portland, Maine on May 30, 1935 the son of the late Maurice F. and Gertrude D. (Flaherty) Eaton. He graduated from South Portland High School in the class of 1953 and then enlisted and served our country in the United States Navy. In January of 1957 he married Carole Ann Barbour and together they made their home and raised a family in South Portland. Maurice has always been a hard worker, going to work for Maine Central Railroad at Rigby Yard at the age of 16 and working there for the next 18 years. He worked 2 years with Chase Transfer as a Rigger/Driver, a job that allowed him to travel all over the country. He ended his working career with the US Postal Service as a letter carrier. Maurice always had a strong work ethic which he instilled in his children. Although he worked long days, Maurice always made time for his family. His greatest love was the time he spent surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Maurice was predeceased by his wife Carole Eaton on August 28, 2013. He is survived by three sons Michael D. Eaton of Falmouth, James M. and Kevin P. Eaton both of South Portland; a daughter Maureen Pettengill of South Portland; a sister Nancy Odum of Raymond; 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. The family would like to acknowledge and thank Donna OBrien from VNA for the wonderful and compassionate care she gave Maurice. Visiting Hours will be held on Tuesday from 4-7PM at the Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at the Funeral Home on Wednesday at 10:15AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM at Holy Cross Church, 124 Cottage Rd., South Portland. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland. Arrangements are under the direction of Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Homes, proudly serving the Veterans of Greater Portland.
