Portland - Marie E. Fredette, 73, died on April 30, 2022, at Seaside Nursing Home after a brief illness.
Marie was born on November 11, 1948, in Portland, the daughter of the late Donald and Esther (Bellefontaine) Clark. She attended local Falmouth schools and graduated from Falmouth High School. In April of 1971 she married Marcel Fredette and they raised their three girls. Marie worked as a day care provider for over 40 years and made many lifelong friendships with the families. Her job was more than just work for her, she loved helping to care for children.
Marie volunteered for various organizations throughout her life. She was a member of the Clowns for Christ where she went to nursing homes to visit and bring joy to the people who lived and worked there. She held several positions in the Westbrook chapter of the Maine Jaycee's, volunteered for the Daughters of Isabella as an auditor, and she was a foster grandparent.
Marie was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Marcel Fredette, in December. She is survived by her three daughters, Denise Fredette and her husband Matt Kahrman of Raymond, Angela Sinclair and her husband John of Westbrook, Felicia Fredette of Westbrook; two sisters, Bonnie Leavitt and Barbara Leighton; five grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Prayers will be recited for Marie and her husband, Marcel, on Friday, May 6, 2022 at St. Hyacinth Cemetery, 296 Stroudwater St, Westbrook. The family will announce a special celebration of life for Marie to family and close friends at a later date. She was the best hugger ever!!!! There wasn’t a time I saw her that she wouldn’t say “do you want a hug” and she’d hug you so tight and meaningful. We’d smile and go about our day. Shed always thank me for my smile And I’d thank her for the hug!

We were such good friends in high school, shame how we lose contact as our lives go in different directions! Facebook brought us back but I never did get to go see her. She was the kindest sweetest person I have known. RIP Marie
