BUXTON - Kenneth R. Brown, 84, of Buxton, died May 29, 2014 at the Maine Veteran's Home, Scarborough.He was born on June 2, 1929 in Jamaica Plain, MA, a son of Edwin and Olive Resser Brown. During his early years Kenneth lived and attended school in Livermore Falls. He later moved to South Portland and was a graduate of South Portland High School. Kenneth enlisted in the Army in 1947. He began his Army career as part of the peace keeping forces in Germany at the end of World War II. He was stationed in Okinawa, Baltimore, MD, Stuttgart, Germany, at the Pentagon, Vietnam, Boston Army Base and the field office in Waltham, MA. He served most of his career in Army Intelligence. Kenneth was a Bronze Star Recipient. Kenneth retired in 1970 as a Chief Warrant Officer.After returning to Maine, Kenneth accepted a position as Building Superintendent of the Cumberland County Courthouse, fully retiring in 1994.Kenneth married the former Edith Libby in 1951. Edith predeceased Kenneth in January 1984. In 1985 Kenneth married Phyllis Anne Brown, she predeceased him in 2003.Kenneth loved to travel, with Ireland, being his favorite destination. He enjoyed time spent reading in his La Z Boy recliner on his sun porch with his little dog "Charlie".Kenneth was predeceased by a brother George Brown; and his nephew George E. Brown.Survivors include a daughter Karen Deterding and husband Greg of Scarborough; a son Kenneth Brown, Jr. of Buxton; a sister, Dorothea Brown of Lewiston; a grandson, Johnny Shepard, III and wife Amy; two great grandchildren, Hailey and Jordan Shepard; a nephew James Brown of Shapleigh.Visiting hours will be held 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday June 1, 2014 at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Monday a 10:00 a.m. funeral service will be held at the South Portland Chapel. Burial with military honors will be held at Brooklawn Memorial Park, Portland.Online condolences may be expressed below.

  1. I was so glad that we got to see each other 2 weeks ago, it was like the time we spent apart never existed. We looked at each other, you told me that you missed me so much and you loved me just as much, we were hugging each other and crying at the same time. I will always remember that time together we had 2 weeks ago and the nurse telling me that was the happiest you have been in a very long time and I am so glad I made that happen for you. You left this world being happy again and now you will see mom again and be happy again. I will miss you terribly and love you just as much. You are the best dad anyone could ever have and no one can take that away from us. Rest in peace dad and be happy with mom once again as you told me 2 weeks ago, you miss mom so much, well I do too.
