NORTH YARMOUTH - Joseph Oakley Malloy, Jr., age 73, of North Yarmouth, died Monday December 5, 2011 at Brentwood Manor in Yarmouth. He was born in Portland, a son of Joseph Oakley and Leona Elizabeth Belfontaine Malloy, Sr. Mr. Malloy attended local schools in Portland and later earned his GED following his military service. He served in the Navy in Okinawa and served aboard the USS Ranger and the USS Ticonderoga. For 35 years, Mr. Malloy was employed with the Portland Metro, retiring in 2001. Mr. Malloy married the former Joy G. Jordan in 1968 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. He was a member of the North Yarmouth Historical Society and Pownal Historical Society and a member of the Maine Old Cemetery Association. Mr. Malloy was an artist who enjoyed doing pencil sketches of old buildings and landscapes. He was very proud to have one of his drawings reproduced on his cemetery headstone. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Joy G. Malloy of North Yarmouth; a son, Joseph O. Malloy, III, of North Yarmouth; two sisters, Joanne LaRochelle and her husband Arthur of Portland, Donna Fournier and her husband Ricky of Portland. Visitation will be held 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. Prayers will be recited at 10:15 a.m. Friday at the funeral home followed by an 11:00 a.m. a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Pius X Church, 492 Ocean Ave., Portland. Burial will follow in New Calvary Cemetery, South Portland, Maine. Those desiring may make donations to "The Kate", c/o Moosehead Marine Museum, Inc., PO Box 1151, Greenville, Maine 04441-1151.
