John Francis Sears

PORTLAND - John Francis Sears, 69, of Portland, died peacefully January 4, 2012 with his loving family by his side. He was born September 28, 1942 in Portland, a son of Arthur Woodrow and Mary Anna Colello Sears. He was educated locally and was a 1961 graduate of Portland High School. John served in the U. S. Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He served four years aboard the USS Diamond Head AE19. He worked in the Administration Department for the Civil Service in Maine and Washington, D.C. He was a volunteer at the Togus Veterans Hospital for several years. He participated in the Golden Age Games. John was a loving father and proud grandfather. John is predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Joseph M. and Leonardo S. Sears. Surviving are a daughter, Laura Ann Covington and her husband Ozro of Greensboro, NC; two brothers, Arthur W. Sears and his wife Anne of Portland, Richard A. Sears of Myrtle Beach, SC and four grandchildren, Katelyn, Reilly, Emily and Bradleigh Covington. Visiting hours will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, January 6th at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. Prayers will be recited at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, followed by an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, 72 Federal Street, Portland. Interment will follow in New Calvary Cemetery Veteran's Section, South Portland with Military Rites.
