Scarborough - Jeanne Marie Beaupre Silveira, 83, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2023, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, Maine.
Born on June 12, 1939, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, to the late Leo and Gertrude (Egan) Beaupre, Jeanne attended St. John’s Academy and Holy Family High School. She was a bright, hardworking, and popular student.
After high school, Jeanne attended St. Luke’s Nursing School, where she earned her diploma as a registered nurse in 1960. Jeanne began her nursing career at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, where she worked in the geriatric ward, the education department, and the psychiatric ward.
While out with friends at the Depot Café in early 1960, Jeanne caught the eye of a handsome young professor, William A. Silveira. They quickly fell in love, and married on December 26, 1960, at St. James Church in New Bedford. Together they had two children, Heidi Marie and Thomas Jude. Jeanne was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She was always there for her family, providing them with love, support, and encouragement.
Always seeking to expand her knowledge, she returned to school mid-career. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from St. Joseph’s College in Standish, Maine in 1978.
Jeanne was also a loving grandmother to her daughter’s two sons, Ben and Nick. She enjoyed spending time with them, taking walks, playing games, and reading stories. In 2003, wanting to be closer to their grandchildren, Jeanne and William moved to Scarborough. There she worked as a psychiatric nurse at Spring Harbor Hospital in Portland. After retiring from nursing in 2012, she volunteered at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Scarborough, and, along with her husband, at Partners for World Health in Portland.
Jeanne enjoyed many hobbies throughout her life and was always very stylish. In high school, she enjoyed going to Liggett’s Pharmacy after school to share a soda with friends. She also enjoyed tennis, shopping, decorating, sewing, needlepoint, knitting, cooking, and crafts. She was most proud of having won the Standard-Times cooking contest for her chocolate desserts. (Jeanne loved chocolate … and ice cream!) In her retirement, she enjoyed traveling, spending time with her family, socializing with friends, taking walks along the beach, and watching birds in the garden.
Jeanne was a devout Catholic and was active in her church community. She volunteered at the local soup kitchen and helped to organize fundraisers for various charities. She was always there for her family and friends; she was a caring, thoughtful, and warm person who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Jeanne is survived by her husband, William; her children, Heidi and Thomas; her grandsons, Ben and Nick; and her brother, Donald.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, May 25, from 4:00-5:30 pm at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway South Portland. I am saddened to hear when she passed away. She is inspirational of her kindness, caring to her family and sweet smile. I may not have enough time to know her, however, looking forward to the person who loves her was enough to say that she’s wonderful and one of the best person I know.
I may not find the right words at this time but I wish her family find comfort with all her loving memories, peace and love they need in the days to come.
Our deepest sympathies Silveira Family. Our parents thought the world of you and passed that on to us. I got to work with Jeanne as a nurse and a special lady indeed…classy too. We are keeping you in our prayers. The Dupre Family. Liz, Ann, Rose, Louise, Joseph and Peter.
I worked many years with Jeanne at St. Luke’s, she was always very pleasant, and caring. And I remember her as well as being classy. My condolences to her family.
