Portland - Jane Marie Anderson, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2023.
Born in Portland, Maine on July 19, 1949, Jane was the daughter of the late Charles and Jane (Davis) Anderson.
Jane was a lover of crafts, puzzles, and the harmonious tones of Country Western music. She had a great sense of humor, beautiful blue eyes, and a headstrong determination that inspired those who knew her. Jane was a passionate advocate for the rights of those who are handicapped through SUFU and was one of the first members of the cerebral palsy center. Her achievements included chair dancing in the Special Olympics, but perhaps her greatest achievement was the love and respect she garnered from family and friends.
Jane's family, holidays, especially Christmas and the 4th of July, and her faith in God were the most important aspects of her life. She also shared a special bond with her friend, Laura Raymond, and enjoyed spending time at Pine Tree Camp.
Jane was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Dennis Anderson; and her beloved grandmother, Florence Davis.
She is survived by her sisters, Donna Acin and Mary Emmons, both of Portland, and her nephew, Thomas Anderson.
Jane's life will be celebrated on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at from 4-6PM at the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. Her Graveside Service will take place on Friday, August 25, 2023, at 12:00 pm at Calvary Cemetery, Broadway, South Portland.
In the words of Helen Keller, "Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved." Jane Anderson's life was a testament to the strength of character and the power of resilience.

I’m going to miss you so much
I knew Jane from the CP Center. I used to volunteer on Thursday afternoons at “Teen Group” and with young adults. My love for the students led me in a journey yet being aSpecial Ed teacher for 40 years. Knowing Jane was one of the beginning steps in my journey. I also volunteered at the camp on Hancock Pond during the summers. Jane always had a beautiful smile. Many dances at the CP Center starred Jane chair dancing. RIP Jane
I knew Jane when, as a high school student back in the late 60’s and early 70’s, I volunteered at the CP Center a couple of days each week. Jane was sweet and full of life, and left a huge impact on me. To Jane’s sisters and nephew, cherish your wonderful memories, and may they comfort you during this sad time. Take good care.
My fondest memories of Jane are going to the circus and having her drink dumped on me when the clowns came near her. Her excitement was was so contagious.
Jane you will be missed.
