SOUTH PORTLAND - Helen A. Patchell, 98, of Bonny Briar Road, died Friday, August 9, 2013, at Springbrook Center in Westbrook. She was born in Portland on July 25, 1915, a daughter of Holsey and Madonna E. (Sawyer) Stanley. She graduated from Cathedral High School, class of 1932. She married Joseph D. Patchell on June 21, 1939, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland. Helen was a homemaker who felt great joy caring for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed square dancing, bowling, bingo, horse racing, and traveling. She was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church and Holy Cross Church in South Portland. She is predeceased by her husband who died September 5, 1997; and two sisters, Elizabeth Stanley and Rita Libby. She is survived by two daughters, Joan H. Coyne and her husband John of South Portland and Virginia M. Frederick and her husband Jeffrey of Scarborough; two sons, Donald E. Patchell of South Portland and John S. Patchell and his wife Diane of St. Augustine, Florida; 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff at Springbrook Center for their professionalism and the compassionate care provided to Helen. Visiting hours will be held 6:00-8:00 pm Monday at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland . A memorial service will take place at 10:00 am, Tuesday, at the chapel. Burial will take place at Brooklawn Memorial Park, Portland. Memorial donations may be made to Holy Cross Church, PO Box 57, Scarborough, ME 04070, or Springbrook Center, 300 Spring Street, Westbrook, Me 04092-3915.Online condolences may be expressed below.
