PORTLAND - Gregory Michael Murphy, 41, died unexpectedly March 29, 2012 at his residence. He was born June 22, 1970 in Portland, the son of Edmund F. and Patricia Ann Hamilton Murphy. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Portland High School. He attended Casco Bay College. Gregory became a Firefighter and EMT and was hired by Falmouth Fire Department in 2006. He was Firefighter of the year in 2008. He was currently employed by Northeast Mobile Health Services and Falmouth Fire Rescue Department. He also was studying for a paramedic license. Gregory enjoyed playing the bagpipes and was in a bagpipe band. He earned a Black Belt in Karate and played guitar. Surviving are his parents Edmund and Patricia of Portland; his fianc(c)e, Sonja Nielson of Portland; four paternal uncles and aunts, Judith McGinnis of Scarborough, Dorothy Duffy of Scarborough, John Murphy of Michigan, Lawrence Murphy of Portland; four maternal uncles and aunts, George Hamilton of Woburn, MA, Helen Cail of Londonderry, NH, Justina Rush of Wakefield, MA, Linda Keay of Los Angeles, CA and several cousins. Visiting hours will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Monday at Conroy-Tully Crawford Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland. A10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, at St. Joseph's Church, 673 Stevens Avenue, Portland. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
