Cape Elizabeth- George H. Thompson Sr., 84, of Meadow Way, died peacefully on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 with his loving family by his side. George was born in West Enfield on July 27, 1931 the son of the late John H. and Annie (Saucier) Thompson. He graduated from Portland High School in the class of 1948. He then enlisted and served in the United States Air Force. On September 4, 1954 he married Jeanette A. Crandall at Sacred Heart Church in Portland. George worked as a welding fabricator doing bridge construction for Bancroft Martin for twenty five years. He then worked as a custodian at the Wentworth Elementary School in Scarborough for eleven years before retiring in 1993. In his spare time, George loved working in the flower and vegetable gardens which surrounded his home, his daughter commented he could grow anything. He was an avid Red Sox Fan and loved playing golf. His greatest love was the time he spent surrounded by his family, especially his grandchildren which were his pride and joy. He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. George is survived by his wife of sixty one years Jeanette Thompson of Cape Elizabeth; a daughter Lisa Thompson of Gorham; a son George H. Thompson Jr. of Cape Elizabeth; two sisters Donna Groves and Janet Rancourt both of Westbrook; four grandchildren Joshua Thompson of Portland, Emma Bingham of Cumberland, and Annie and Kevin Brewer both of Gorham. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, October 5, 2015 from 4:00 to 6:00pm at the Conroy- Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, October 6th at the Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Cape Elizabeth.
