Resided in:
Scarborough, ME
Deborah Lynn McLaughlin Shelton, age 49, passed away unexpectedly on December 26, 2021. She was born December 3, 1972 in Biloxi, MS to James and Mary Ann McLaughlin.
Deborah was a dedicated servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, a devoted and loving wife to her husband of 21 years, Tony Shelton, and a tireless and wonderful mother to their four children. She was also a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She lit up any room with her bubbly personality and made everyone feel special. She will be sorely missed.
Deborah graduated from Scarborough High School in Scarborough, ME, and Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL with a B.S. in Early Childhood Education, and from Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC with a M.S. in Elementary Education.
The Lord allowed her to truly see much of the world while preparing for and doing what she loved – teaching children. She worked as a student teacher in London, England, and was employed as an English Teacher in South Korea for 1 1/2 years. She served the Lord with her family as a missionary to Vienna, Austria for over 15 years, making an impact on so many lives there and in Germany where she also ministered. She was an avid traveler who visited Japan, China, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, and Italy. She also visited the land of her family heritage, Ireland.
One of her favorite Bible verses she often quoted was Psalm 103: 12 – “As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.”
Deborah is survived by her parents, James and Mary Ann McLaughlin, beloved husband, Tony Shelton, and their four children, Cara, Steven, Heidi, and Anna. She is also survived by her sister Lee Ann and husband Lance (of Gulfport MS), her brother Michael and his wife Rhonda and their three children (of Bethesda, MD) and her brother Andrew and his wife Suzanne and their three children (of Scarborough, ME).
Please join us in celebrating Deborah’s life on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 415 U.S. Route 1, Scarborough, ME 04074. When we met Debbie at church, she was a light that shined brightly. She had the biggest radiant smile. She would do anything for anyone. We will always have the sweetest memories of Debbie. She and Tony raised 4 wonderful children and her light continues to shine through them. We will miss her deeply.

During my university studies in Vienna I attended Pastor Stan Shelton’s church where I was fortunate to meet and get to know Debbie Shelton. She was such a sweet, caring and godly woman. She always had an encouragement for me and I loved being in her presence! She taught me by example how to love your family and most importantly how to love and serve God. I’m very thankful for the great memories and will forever cherish them greatly my prayers go out to her children and husband. God may give you comfort in this difficult time! In Christ, Dayana

I knew Debbie because we both worked for BJU Press. Later I had the privilege to visit her and her family in Vienna with the Ken Lynch family. These photos are from our very special time together in 2009. Debbie was a gracious hostess and always a delightful person to be around. I am so sad to hear that she has left you all behind but thankful that she joined Barb Lynch in Glory, where there will be no more sorrow.

Debbie was a beautiful Christian friend that I fist met at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Scarborough. She taught at Cornerstone Christian School in Ossipee, NH for a year before going to BJU to get her Masters and meeting her future husband , Tony. I was administrator that year and got to spend a lot of time with her. She was a joyful Christian and fun to be with. We enjoyed having Debbie and Tony at our home on Lake Winnepesaukee before they were married and knew their lives would be fruitful together serving the Lord. Looking forward to meeting again for all eternity

Debbie was such a dear friend! We shared a lot of beautiful times together. We got married near the same time, served in the same church together, had our 1st babies 2 days apart across the hall in the same hospital. Debbie was in the operating room with me when my second baby was born and my husband was away traveling. We shared in the same type of ministry for many years although many miles apart. Debbie was always a blessing, encouragement, and help to me. We shared many laughs and tears together when we would meet up. My heart is broken with you, but I am so thankful I know I will see her again! Praying for each one left behind!

We enjoyed fellowshipping with Debbie and her family both in the USA and on the mission field. This photo was taken around 2015 when they visited with us in our home. Thankful that she knew Jesus as her Savior and is with Him now!

Our sincere condolences go out to the McGlocklin family and the Shelton family. I worked with Deborah’s mother Mary Ann for 15 years. I saw her children come in and out of the workplace whether it was to ask their mom a question or to have their teeth cleaned by her. It was kind of like seeing them grow and become adults. Mary Ann would tell me about their college experiences and where life would eventually be taking them. Deborah was always sweet and very kind. Mary Ann would talk about grandchildren that eventually started arriving. She was very proud of all 4 kids and her beautiful grandchildren. I felt like I knew them well through their mom. God Bless you all at this very hard time. Sending hugs and Love to all of you!

We got to know Debbie during her time in Vienna. When I think of her, I immediately picture her energy, her big smile, her devotion to the Lord, her husband and her kids. If Tony wasn’t in town and something needed fixing, she simply consulted YouTube and got on with the job ;). Our children loved her fun and creative ideas for youth group which was open to any teenager and was held at her house. Our prayers are with you, the family, that you may find comfort in the Lord: “The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.” 2 Sam. 22:2 With love, the Rhombergs
